Incapable of Shame

We should be ashamed and weeping, with an outrage that shakes the foundation of the nation, but we are not. We are incapable of shame!”

After an agonizing and bitter election fight, the U.S. has a new president-elect. Mr. Bush will assume leadership of a nation not so divided since the Civil War, having been approved by approximately 25% of eligible voters, and a favorable U.S. Supreme Court decision.

This election has revealed an ominous truth about the USA. Make no mistake about it, the majority of voters, regardless of party, were not motivated by a sense of morality. Unfortunately, this is the most shameful time in our nation’s history since the awful days of slavery. Though I am hopeful more babies will live due to the election’s result, it is by no means assured. The losing candidate and party ran on a pro death platform and the winner chose not to make it an issue. Why? The public backlash might cost him the election!

When my wife went to the polls, she was greeted by a booster for a particular candidate.

Margaret wanted to know her candidate’s stance on saving unborn children, i.e. abortion. The response was, “That’s not an issue with me.” Indeed, America’s holocaust is not an issue with most because it is a woman’s right to choose. We should be ashamed and weeping, with an outrage that shakes the foundation of the nation, but we are not. We are incapable of shame!

“Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? No! They were not at all ashamed; nor did they know how to blush.” (Jeremiah 6:15 NKJV)

O how that reflects the USA! If we were capable of shame, this election would never have been close. It would have been a landslide for pro-life and morality candidates. The fact that politicians run away from righteous positions, a minority opinion president, a 50/50 Senate, almost even House, and a Supreme Court that supports pro-death initiatives, reveals this nation has passed a watershed moment, into post-Christian America.. A few weeks ago, England was officially declared an atheistic nation and we are not far behind.

II Kings 24:4 records reasons for Judah’s destruction and captivity into Babylon, one being the filling of Jerusalem with innocent blood, “which the Lord would not pardon.” Were we capable of shame, we would tremble in repentance, but we don’t. This nation will never recover from forty years of slaughtering babies, and crowning it all with eight years of legitimized depravity called the Clinton Presidency! It’s not, nor has it ever been just “the economy, stupid,” but Americans bought it, accepted and even reveled in the corruptness and debauchery of a leader who could deliver wealth, but not character. This says far more about the American people than the politicians, because they could never be elected if they didn’t adequately reflect the true values of far too many citizens. “Who knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things, are deserving of death; not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.” (Romans 1:31) Three times in Romans chapter one God is said to have “given them up” to a debased mind, because they pushed God out of their thoughts. That is present-day America! We have been Clintonized, incapable of shame! Most Americans have become “conscienceless, treacherous,” (Romans 1:31 Goodspeed), “whose consciences are as dead as seared flesh” (I Timothy 4:2 Phillips) It no longer matters what the Bible or the U.S. Constitution or laws say, it’s how you “feel” about it. Not what’s right or wrong, only the individual’s sense of correctness is insisted on. In a moral vacuum like ours, there is great danger which is impossible to overstate. Lest you think the nightmare is coming to an end, it
is just getting started. How does U.N. Secretary General William Jefferson Clinton grab you?

Hence, the finality of our current Presidential election brings only moderate optimism, tempered by disgust and shame of our nation’s condition. In light of Bible prophecy, I feel we are fertile ground for a wildly popular world leader to appear, who seems to have all the answers. The U.S. and the world are hell bent on globalization, a buzzword for one-world government. Of course we need a strong benevolent dictator whom the Bible identifies as anti-Christ. And we are prepared soil for all of this due to our worship of the dollar and a loss of shame and righteousness. We’ve gotten here by deliberately choosing to ignore the God that founded this nation and established it upon His Word. And we are arrogant about it! Weep for the USA. We have become unable to blush and incapable of shame!
